The KU Leuven Model United Nations Student Association or KULMUN vzw, is a student association that offers Model United Nations training’s and simulations to both Flemish and international students of the KU Leuven. KULMUN strives to provide its 50 motivated members with a platform that allows them to develop their potential in various areas. Not only do we endeavour to enhance our members speaking skills, diplomatic talents and analytical skills in the fields of politics, economics and international affairs, we strive to promote the values of the United Nations and active citizenship among students. Moreover, we seek to create a strong atmosphere of friendship between our members through our social and team building events.
The main focus of the Association lies in simulating the organs of the United Nations. In a simulation, the participants, or delegates, each represent a country whose policy and interests they aim to defend during negotiations concerning an international issue. The topics debated are usually present-day topics, such as the situation in Crimea or the state of the European economy.
Simulations of this kind are held in the context of Model United Nations conferences throughout Europe. Every MUN conference is based of the following three aspects: Competition, Committees and Current topics. KULMUN vzw is the proud organiser of the KULMUN Conference, which takes place in Leuven every spring. KULMUN 2016, our latest edition, lasted five days and received incredibly positive feedback from the 150 international participants that attended from all over Europe.
At the end of every simulation, a Best Delegate prize is awarded to the delegates that excelled in the representation of their country. Thanks to the hard work of KULMUN and her members, our organisation has been received over 60 diplomacy awards in the past six years from participation in MUN conferences around the whole world.
